Do you feel highly stressed, always exhausted, or cannot concentrate even on the easiest of tasks?
If your answer to the question above was yes, you are definitely experiencing burnout. Let’s look at a few ways to manage burnout at work.
Why do you get that feeling?
Burnout can be a clear sign of prioritising work over self. And, you might feel that it is not totally your fault.
You might feel that you didn’t have a choice. Of course, you had to do that to grow in your career, get rich, become something big, prove something to someone, get a lot of success and more. However, it is your fault indeed if you cannot weigh yourself above all the things you have wanted.
And that is where you fail. You can be the most crucial task in your life, so how can something be more important than you. Moreover, if you don’t prioritise yourself, how can you push yourself to accomplish something.
It is just like a simple give and takes relationship you have with yourself. If you don’t listen to your body, your body won’t listen to you.
Are you confused?
Here’s what it means.
Listen to what your body says
Your body needs nutrition, happiness, sound sleep, calmness, exercise and a tiny amount of pressure or challenge to be at its best state.
Now, if you haven’t given these to your body, but are expecting it to provide you with the best support, then you are up for disappointment.
Therefore, you need a work-life balance to get what your body needs and what your career needs.
You might even choose to work harder on weekdays and take weekends off to recuperate. Even then, you can be exhausted with the routine. Therefore, you and your body both need to listen to each other.
You can only win with your body by your side. Therefore, listening to your body is essential.
Work Together
Most people feel burnout also because they are working alone. This was especially aggravated during covid, where people were working from home. They could not have everyday conversations with their colleagues, friends, and even family sometimes, which heavily impacted their mental health.
Furthermore, the feeling of burnout becomes severe when you are confined to your home and cannot escape from situations.
Therefore, working together in an in-office setting can be better than working alone.
Regain Control
All right, you are into the burnout stage.
You are feeling unproductive, cynical, inefficient, always exhausted and more.
How can you start to manage this?
First, you need to free yourself from the ‘victim mindset’.
This is the first thing we do while we face burnout. We blame everyone responsible for the situation and assign the victim card to ourselves. However, this can restrict you from doing anything about improving the situation.
So, regaining control starts with believing that no matter what others do, you always have a choice to make things better for yourself.
Giving yourself control over choices lets you think of possibilities for improvement, even in the tiniest ways. This gives you hope.
Next, you can start celebrating yourself for the right actions you have made. This gives you the hope of making a difference in your life.
You can do this by believing that you don’t need to feel like doing something to do it. What’s to be done is to be done! Further, believe that the motivation you are looking for is within you.
Finally, make a chart of ‘having to dos’ in your work life and beat your assumptions by mentioning what would happen if you do it your way or choose to skip it.
Thus, you can regain control and revive from your burnout cycle.
Summing up
You often have more choices than you believe. Still, the victim mindset, lone working hours, physical exhaustion and lesser self-importance cloud your view of them. You must always that only you can pull yourself from the burnout cycle.
